Submissions

We’re interested in poems that work together cohesively in a small series, rather than poems taken from a longer manuscript. If you believe your work fits with our mandate, we’d love to hear from you! Please refrain from sending full manuscripts by e-mail attachment; with the advent of viruses and spamming, we are justifiably wary receiving complete manuscripts in attachment form. Instead, send your full collections to us via snail mail at the address to the right of the page, or pasted into the body of an e-mail.

NOTE: We tend not to be interested in overtly religious poetry or rhyming, greeting card-style verse. We very rarely publish collections of haiku, and will not consider any work that is racist or sexist in any way.

Please include the following in your submission package:

Advice to beginning writers: Although we do publish new writers, we encourage all those considering sending their work to Rubicon Press to submit it to literary magazines or journals beforehand. Sending your work out into the world indicates that you are serious about seeking feedback regarding your poetry and working to improve your craft. We very rarely accept new writers who have not established some sort of publishing history.

We encourage all those considering submitting to check out our Chapbooks page or to order some sample titles to see what types of work we have published in the past.
