Carla Hartsfield is a classically trained pianist, singer/songwriter, and visual artist, as well as a writer. The River is her fifth collection. Her first, The Invisible Moon, was shortlisted for The League of Canadian Poets’ Gerald Lampert Memorial Award. Her subsequent books have been well-reviewed, such as Your Last Day on Earth (Brick Books), which was long-listed for the Re-Lit Awards. A number of the poems in The River have appeared in The Fiddlehead, The Antigonish Review, Prairie Fire, CV2, The Toronto Quarterly, and have been anthologized in Canada, the United States, and abroad.
